Protect the Source of the Three Rivers, Seek the Road of Green – KINGFA with the Eco-Action "Protect the Sanjiangyuan, Create A Clean Future"
Aug. 04, 2021

Sanjiangyuan is the source of the Yangtze River, Yellow River and Lanchang River. The waters of the Sanjiangyuan have flowed for thousands of years, breeding and nourishing the civilization of China and even Asia. However, with the increasing economic activity of human beings, this untouched fertile land is no longer quiet. With the increase of food packaging bags, beverage bottles and other packaging waste discarded by truck drivers and tourists, ecological systems such as water and soil have been damaged, threatening the safety of the local ecological environment to some extent.

From July 15 to 19, KINGFA with Unilever, China Packaging Federation, CCTV's Newsweek, and Green River Public Welfare jointly launched the eco-action "Protect the Sanjiangyuan, Create A Clean Future" in the Sanjiangyuan region of Qinghai Province. It aims to focus human beings' attention on the plight of the source of China's Mother River, raising public awareness of environmental protection, upgrading the green packaging and recycling the plastic waste, and help to realize the carbon-neutral goal.

Starting from Yushu, the Eco-Action group passed through Zhimenda Village, Angsai and crossed the southern source of the Yangtze River - Dangqu, Yanzhanggua Valley and Tongtian River, arriving at the First Town of the Yangtze River - Tanggulashan town, and finally came to the Yangtze River Water Ecological Environment Protection Station of Green River and the Yangtze River No. 1 post office located in the Tuotuo River.

The whole trip is about 2500 kilometers. Along the way, the Eco-Action group and Green River volunteers did five things as below:

1. Picked up plastic waste to recover the cleanliness of China's Mother River

2. Conducted research on plastic waste, spread the knowledge of reducing plastic waste, classifying the garbage scientifically

3. Analyzed the impact of plastic waste on the local ecosystem

4. Promoted the recycling of plastic waste

5. Visited local herders to learn about plastic waste in fragile ecological areas and discussed garbage recycling and treatment in the plateau region.

On July 19, the Eco-Action group held the inaugural ceremony of "Protect the Sanjiangyuan, Create A Clean Future" at the Yangtze River Water Ecological Environment Protection Station to guarantee the plastic pollution control work and develop the circular economy, cultivating green consumption.

From Yushu, Qinghai Province to Qingyuan, Guangdong Province, the plastic waste collected at Sanjiangyuan has traveled thousands of miles to KINGFA. At KINGFA, after pre-treatment and high-quality recycled, they are transformed into environmentally friendly and high-performance recycled plastics that are equivalent to the new plastics. The recycled plastic particles are then transported to the packaging plant of Unilever's Omo brand and processed into packaging. And this is how the plastic waste that threatens the Sanjiangyuan ecosystem turned into treasure by KINGFA.

Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. As the world's leading new materials supplier, KINGFA has adhered to the principle of green, low-carbon and circular development to provide comprehensive solutions from waste plastic recycling to high-quality utilization for numerous global brands since 2005.

KINGFA relies on "State Key Laboratory of High-Quality Utilization of Polymer Material Resources", the only national key laboratory of recycled plastic industry, as well as innovation platforms of the National Engineering Laboratory and Enterprise Technology Centers, Academician Workstation and Post-Doctoral Scientific Research Workstation. With the cooperation of upstream and downstream of the industrial chain and stakeholders, KINGFA promotes responsible production and consumption, accelerates the green transformation of the whole society, makes a continuous contribution to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and the national goal to hit peak emissions before 2030 and for carbon neutrality by 2060, and strives to create a sustainable and better life.
