On September 13, the United States "Chemical Week" released the latest "Global Chemical Companies Billion Dollar Club" rankings. In terms of sales revenue in 2020, BASF continues to top the list, followed by Dow and Sinopec.
BASF’s hold on the industry’s top spot continued with the German giant grabbing the top spot in CW’s annual Billion-Dollar Club ranking for the 10th time in 13 years in 2020. The fourth and fifth places are Formosa Plastics and Exxon Mobil, which have swapped positions with last year's ranking. Ranked 6-10 are: Ineos, China National Chemical Corporation, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, Lyondell Basel, and Mitsubishi Chemical.
This year’s billion-dollar club ranking threshold is 2.8 billion U.S. dollars. A total of 13 Chinese companies are shortlisted. Sinopec ranks second, Formosa Plastics Group is fourth, and China National Chemical Corporation is seventh. Hengli Petrochemical has risen sharply by 13 and ranked 14th. Ranked, Rongsheng Petrochemical jumped 27th to 24th, and KINGFA (China)'s ranking jumped from being unqualified in 2020 to 76th in 2021.
Due to the global COVID situation and economic stagnation, the income of global chemical companies generally declined in 2020. Among the billion-dollar clubs this year, 78 companies saw revenue decline, and only 22 companies increased revenue. The average annual sales are approximately US$11.8 billion, and the median sales are approximately US$8.25 billion.
The past year has been a difficult year for the entire industry and the world, including unprecedented supply chain restrictions; new variants of COVID-19, including Delta; and rising inflation. Although the COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented, many chemical manufacturers have formulated action plans to limit damage, but there are still many challenges. KINGFA (China) has added a new medical and health department - KINGFA MEDICAL to meet the challenges and achieved quite good results.
The Billion Dollar Club is an annual ranking of the world's top chemical manufacturers that publicly disclose their revenue. Due to differences in data collection, etc., it may not be completely consistent with the billion-dollar club rankings of the previous year. In addition, several companies with large chemical businesses, such as Koch Industries, Total, BP, and PetroChina, failed to participate in this year's ranking because they did not fully report their chemical revenues publicly.
